Skin Layers Defined

Corium 21 penetrates the five layers of the epidermis and the two layers of the dermis. The following is information on these layers of skin.

Your skin has three main layers. The top layer is called the epidermis. It has five sub-layers. They are called the stratum corneum, the stratum lucidum, the stratum granulosum, the stratum spinosum, and the stratum basale. These layers contain no blood vessels. The epidermis is a waterproof, protective wrap.

The second layer is called the dermis. The dermis has two sub-layers. They are called the papillary, which is a thin layer of collagen fibers, and the reticular, which is a thick layer of thicker collagen fibers. The dermis provides cushioning, and it contains nerve endings, hair follicles, sweat glands and more. It is responsible for the senses of pressure, temperature, pain and itching. Hence, the effectiveness of Corium 21.

The third layer is the subcutaneous layer. It is made of fat and connective tissue. It contains larger blood vessels and nerves. It regulates skin and body temperature.
