The second layer of skin is called the dermis. The dermis has two sub-layers. They are called the papillary, which is a thin layer of collagen fibers, and the reticular, which is a thick layer of thicker collagen fibers. The dermis provides cushioning, and it contains nerve endings, hair follicles, sweat glands and more. It is responsible for the senses of pressure, temperature, pain and itching. |
