Growing Aloe Vera in Illinois

The aloe plant requires an average temperature of no less than 50 degrees fahrenheit. It can survive up to 104 degrees fahrenheit. It requires full sunlight, although an excess of sunlight can cause the leaves to turn brown. It needs minimal water, since it is a succulent plant.

The climate in Illinois is cold and snowy in the winter and hot and humid in the summer. This might be ideal for corn, but not for the aloe plant. It's not the Chicago wind that will kill the aloe (rumor has it that the "windy" city is actually referring to the politicians and not the weather). Illinois in general is far too cold to grow the aloe plant outdoors.

You can successfully grow the plant indoors. Ensure it stays warm, and keep it in a location where it will receive maximal sunlight. Do not overwater. As mentioned above, your plant is a succulent and should completely dry out between waterings.
